Minimum Qualifications:
- Four (4) years of full-time, paid relevant work experience in carpentry, construction, art, or design. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university can substitute on a year-to-year basis for the required years of experience.
- At least one year of experience with administration, reports, or managing projects.
- At least one year of experience with woodworking cabinetry, carpentry, or another type of fabrication
- Ability to lift, move, carry, and/or push items weighing up to 50 pounds

Preferences:
- Bachelor’s degree in fine art, History, Anthropology, English, Museum Studies, Information Science or a related field.
- Knowledge of design and construction of museum exhibits.
- Knowledge of art/artifact handling
- Experience in museum exhibit preparation.
- Experience picture framing
- Experience designing and fabricating artifact mounts

Duties and Responsibilities:
- This position is responsible for the management, development, and promotion of the Museum of Florida History’s statewide Traveling Exhibits Program (TREX) including scheduling, correspondence with borrowers, loan agreements and insurance, budget preparation, arranging transportation, maintenance and repairs of TREX exhibits, promotion and publicity, development of interpretive materials, and working with staff and other organizations to develop new exhibitions.
- Offers assistance to museum staff in the completion of a variety of museum projects and programs, including set-up for events, special programs, and other museum- or department-related activities.
- Coordinates with supervisors, curators, designers, educators, and others as needed, in planning the design and construction of traveling exhibits and interpretive material. Participates in exhibition planning teams. In consultation with other team members, determines detailed production schedules, estimating time and costs involved, and general procedures.
- Assists with the planning and installation of DOS exhibits as needed in the Design and Fabrication section.
- Performs other work-related duties as required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of and the ability to follow all museum, department, and state principles and practices;
- Knowledge of museum exhibition and program planning;
- Ability to communicate and convey ideas clearly, both verbally, and in writing;
- Knowledge of art techniques, principles of design, layouts, and illustration;
- Knowledge of design and construction of museum exhibits;
- Ability to learn basic skills in general carpentry;
- Ability to learn matting and framing pictures; and building construction.
- Ability to use computer to produce reports, conduct research and maintain records;
- Ability to learn special handling procedures for art and artifacts;
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
- Ability to bend, stoop, squat, reach, stretch and/or twist; Ability to climb stairs;
- Ability to work in extreme environmental conditions, outside or inside (e.g., heat; cold; dust; noise), and ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time;
- Ability to ascend and descend ladders to a height of 10’;
- Ability to organize building materials, exhibit supplies and past exhibit components;
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and in stressful situations;
- Ability to assimilate information quickly;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and respectful working relationships with colleagues, other department staff and the public;
