$72,000.24 - $82,500.18 Annually $2,769.24 - $3,173.08 Bi-weekly
Position Summary
This is a highly professional position responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing policies and procedures, and developing program operational standards for an extensive and effective public information program under the supervision of the Director of the Agency for Persons with Disabilities.
The Work You Will Do
Directs the efforts of the Agency to inform the public about the services provided by the Agency. This includes developing and implementing statewide public awareness campaigns using all forms of mass communication, advising Central and Area offices on materials available to reach target audiences, ensuring clarity of writing and conformity to the Agency policies. Responsible for the preparation and distribution of media releases concerning the Agency. Ensures that media releases are communicated to persons clearly, accurately and are in compliance with rules, regulations and guidelines applicable to the Agency.
Supervises liaisons between APD and Family Care Councils of Florida (FCC), which includes monitoring and consulting with APD leadership and staff regarding the operations of the FCCS, overseeing training and implementation of FCC action plans, attending FCC statewide meetings, and developing methods and/or campaigns that help FCCs recruit and retain appointments and members.
Supervises management of the Agency Resource Directory, including overseeing correspondence from constituents and recommending enhancements to the system.
Oversee the development and management of the Florida Navigator resource. Coordinate with Agency state and other State Agencies regularly to ensure accuracy.
Serves as spokespersons for the Agency with the media on direct media inquiries and assign or consult with appropriate to answer specific questions.
Develops Agency policy on public information, and counsel top managers and others on information and media activities. Consults with Program supervisors ensuring that the Agency’s activities are accurately and constructively represented in the print and broadcast media.
Manages the public information staff assisting then in establishing priorities for projects and in setting deadlines for timely completion.
Develops internal and external communications plans in keeping with the Agency’s objectives. Promotes Agency policy position on budget and program issues with legislative, gubernatorial, and congressional bodies throughout the year.
Formulates policies related to the Agency’s press relations, public information publications as well as the release of confidential information.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have experience managing social media accounts for an organization.
Must have experience with writing, editing and oral communication.
Must have 2 or more years’ experience in Communications and/or Public Relations.

As a condition of employment, a person appointed to a position in the State Personnel System is required to participate in the Direct Deposit Program. Background Screening Requirement
It is the policy of the Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities that applicants for employment undergo Level 2 employment screening in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment or being permitted to serve as a volunteer.
