Duties and Responsibilities
FLHSMV is seeking a skilled and motivated SQL Developer to join our growing data team. This role is crucial for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining robust database solutions that support our business intelligence and reporting initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in both Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL) and Oracle SQL (PL/SQL), with a proven ability to craft complex queries, views, and stored procedures. Preference will be given to applicants with hands-on experience with the Tableau ecosystem, including Tableau Desktop, Tableau Prep Builder, and Tableau Cloud, to empower data-driven decision-making across the organization.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL.
- Knowledge of Oracle Database and PL/SQL.
- Knowledge of Tableau Desktop, Tableau Prep Builder and Tableau Cloud.
- Knowledge of BI Platforms (Power BI).
- Knowledge of data warehousing concepts (e.g. Kimball methodology, star schemas).
- Knowledge of database administration concepts.
- Skill in writing advanced SQL queries, including complex joins, subqueries, aggregations, and window functions.
- Skill in developing and maintaining stored procedures and database views.
- Skill in analytical problem solving with meticulous attention to detail.
- Skill in communication and collaboration.
- Skill in creating and managing data sources.
- Skill in performance tuning and optimization techniques.
- Skill with ETL tools (e.g. SSIS, Informatica, Azure Data Factory).
- Skill with version control systems (e.g. Git).
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants who have professional work experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field, OR equivalent practical experience.
- 3-5 years of proven experience as a SQL Developer or in a similar database-focused role, strong proficiency in writing advanced SQL queries, including complex joins, subqueries, aggregations, and window functions.
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining stored procedures, database views, and data warehousing concepts (e.g., Kimball methodology, star schemas).
- In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL, Oracle Database and PL/SQL.
- Practical experience using Tableau Desktop for creating and managing data sources, Tableau Prep Builder for data preparation and ETL tasks, and experience with Tableau Cloud platform (publishing data sources/workbooks, understanding permissions, scheduling refreshes).
- Experience with other ETL tools (e.g., SSIS, Informatica, Azure Data Factory).
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate, Oracle Database SQL Certified Associate, Tableau Desktop Specialist/Certified Data Analyst).

The position you are applying is subject to a Level 2 background check, along with Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance, to include a fingerprint-based check of the criminal records of the FBI, as a condition of employment pursuant to Chapter 110.1127, 435 and 943, Florida Statutes. Please note that, since this position requires CJIS clearance, the Department will have access to all an applicant’s criminal and juvenile delinquency records, even those that have been sealed or expunged.
General Information
- The elements of the selection process may include a skill assessment and/or oral interview.
- Applicants being considered for employment will be required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which will include a check of the criminal history records of the FBI. Fingerprints and associated information/biometrics will be retained in the FBI’s Next Generation Identification (NGI) system and fingerprints may continue to be compared against fingerprints submitted to or retained by NGI.
- FLHSMV employees are paid once a month on the last workday of each month. All state employees are required to participate in the direct deposit program pursuant to s. 110.113 Florida Statutes.
