SPECIAL NOTES:
High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Additional requirements:
- Valid driver’s license.
- Applicant must possess certification as Florida Fire Safety Inspector I at time of appointment.
- Applicant must possess certification of Florida Fire Safety Inspector II or Florida Code Administrator at or within one year of appointment.
- Must be familiar with state statutes, administrative rules governing fire sprinkler contractors, fire equipment dealers, building construction, and fire prevention requirements.
Preferences:
- Experience conducting or preparing training presentations.
- Two (2) or more years of professional or paraprofessional experience in fire prevention, fire protection systems installations, or other construction inspection related experience
- Two (2) or more years’ experience in fire code enforcement or building code enforcement.
- Experience regulating fire protection contractors and fire equipment dealers.
- An Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
This position requires a security background check, including fingerprint as a condition of employment.
This position will be filled at the salary of $55,000.08 annually.
Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the following REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the concepts, terminology, principles and analytical techniques of an engineering specialty area.
- Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process.

- Knowledge of fire prevention practices, standards and codes

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Review construction documents of all new & existing state-owned and state-leased facilities within assigned region(s). Verify construction, site plans, architectural and engineering drawing documents comply with the Florida Fire Prevention Code as adopted by the state of Florida. Complete reviews within statutory time frames.
Prepares technical correspondence on all building plans, site inspection’s and any other fire protection projects. Responds to correspondence and telephone inquiries and maintains prescribed records and other material pertinent to the discharge of duties.
When requested/assigned, assist with on-site inspections with field personnel on new construction projects and, from time to time, assist the field inspector on existing facilities to determine compliance with particular code concerns. In concert with inspection staff, assist in the evaluation of field changes, modifications and adjustment.
Aid Engineer II in the review of complex plans and served as an SME resource for Engineer II. Periodic review of plans with Engineer II for quality assurance. Assist in special project (s) or assignments.
Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement the timeline and management program required to modify and adopt rules, including but not limited to the Florida Administrative Code 69A-60, Florida Administrative Code 69A-3, and the tri-annual development, publishing, and distribution of the Florida Fire Prevention Code. Independently gathers and organizes complex data related to the program; recommends, designs, and implements organizational and operational processes and procedures as needed and confers with stakeholders to ensure the successful functioning of newly implemented systems and procedures.
Independently or with limited supervision, provides professional technical and consultative services to all inquiries related to the Florida Fire Prevention Code and the associated rules, standards, code development process, fire code interpretations, and the preparation of declaratory statements.
Develops and monitors compliance of the local fire jurisdictions regarding the submission of amendments and the approval or denial of amendments related to the Florida Fire Prevention Code as outlined in FS 633.202.
Serves as the technical expert to the Florida Fire Code Advisory Council members. Develops and implements tasks associated with the update, development, publishing, and distribution of the Florida Fire Prevention code to ensure compliance with the implementation of the code.
Exhibits skilled decision-making techniques in evaluating and planning regional and statewide workshops. Consults with local, state, and federal officials to ensure workshops are organized and are in full compliance with regulations for a successful meeting, such as proper signatures are obtained and that minutes are archived for the future, prepare periodic reports, conduct fire safety research, and perform other assigned work as directed by higher authority.
Attend seminars, training, workshops, and conferences as required.
Staff the Emergency Operations Center in the event of any catastrophic disaster occurring in the state.
Attends job-related training as required and recommended by the Department of Financial Services.
Performs other duties as required.
