The Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Recreation and Parks, is seeking a self-motivated and well-organized Communications Assistant to provide communications and media support for the 175 state parks within the Division of Recreation and Parks, which has been recognized four times as the best state park system in the United States.

Pay:

Your Specific Responsibilities:
This position requires excellent writing skills, as well as the ability to collect and organize concise and compelling stories for targeted audiences in multiple formats. This individual will be responsible for developing strong team relationships, as well as independent work with little supervision.
The Communications Assistant will provide direct support to the Communications Coordinator through the development of good news stories, media briefs and inquiries, filming permits, speaking points and internal communication. This individual will also be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of successful communication plans.
This individual will take a lead role in the day-to-day management of the official Florida State Parks web accounts such as www.FloridaStateParks.org, to include coordinating content updates, providing content management and review, event tracking, navigation and search engine optimization, as well as new content development to support strategic communication campaigns. Also includes occasional after-hours and/or weekend coordination for severe weather events.
This position will assist with the development, production and distribution of high-quality information materials, including but not limited to brochures, park publications, newsletters, presentations and webinars, and reports.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- AP style writing; the principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication.
- Administrative principles and practices.
- Office procedures and practices.
Skilled in:
- The development, review, evaluation and production of a variety of communication, marketing and interpretive programs.
- Collecting, organizing, evaluating and analyzing data.
- Use of computer software applications, particularly Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint Outlook, OneDrive and SharePoint.
Ability to:
- Write, edit, proof and review brochures, publications, newsletters, presentations and webinars, web and social media content, and other agency, partner and public information materials.
- Utilize problem solving techniques and apply critical thinking skills.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
- Document workflow and other activities relating to process improvement.
- Take the lead on assignments and responsibilities.
- Create and meet deadlines to produce timely and effective results.
