Job Description
The position provides legal assistance to the Chief of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). The position is responsible for providing legal interpretation of statutes, rules, and case law; assisting with the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies regarding court-connected ADR in Florida; assisting with the review and analysis of legislation regarding ADR; supporting court ADR commissions, boards, committees, and subcommittees; and may supervise and support staff.
Examples of Work
- Functions as the administrator of the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) certification process for all Dispute Resolution Center (DRC) staff CJIS certified. Review applicants' answers to moral character questions on applications. Review any other information received regarding conduct implicating moral character. Lead staff to Qualifications Inquiry Committee (QIC) of the Mediator Qualifications and Discipline Review Board (MQDRB), including meetings and hearings.
- Review complaints received by the DRC, including complaints filed by the DRC.
- Provides legal opinions and reviews of statutes, rules, and procedures, related to ADR for the following committees and boards. Draft ethics opinions.
- Completes legal research and writing at the request of the Chief of ADR, including drafting petitions and reports regarding proposed rules, statutes, and policy changes regarding ADR. Assists Chief of ADR in staffing Mediator Ethics Advisory Committee (MEAC).
- Reviews all proposed and enacted legislation and summarizes bills of interest to the judicial branch with regards to alternative forms of dispute resolution (ADR). Works with the Chief of ADR and the staff responsible for particular bills to ensure accuracy of abstracts. Assists the Chief of ADR in the drafting or editing of language in proposed or enacted legislation with regard to ADR.
- Provides management, leadership, and operational assistance to the Chief of ADR. These tasks include but are limited to mentoring employees; supervision and performance management of one direct report employee who supervises one administrative assistant.
- Reviews and draft contracts for investigators, prosecutors, and panel advisers in connection with good moral character allegations or complaints filed against mediators or parenting coordinators. Assists the Chief of ADR in reviewing and drafting contracts for meetings, trainings, and conferences at hotels and the contract for the manager of the DRC Annual Conference.
- Provides administrative support for DRC Conference functions and attend conference, as requested by the Chief of ADR. Performs other related duties as needed or requested.
Education and Training Guidelines
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school is required for this position; and
Three years of related work experience, including two years of experience in the appropriate
specialty area of law for the position.
Additional relevant experience may substitute for the recommended educational level on a year-for-year basis.
Additional relevant education may substitute for the recommended experience on a year-for-year basis, excluding supervisory experience.
Special Comments
Salary will be 10% below minimum if not passed Florida Bar.
