This position will manage services while being consistent, predictable and repeatable, foster teamwork within and across work units. Evaluate project/process, make or recommend improvements. Inspect materials in the field for compliance with Florida Department of Transportation (DOT) Specifications.

Your Specific Responsibilities:
Deliver managed services while being consistent, predictable and repeatable. Foster teamwork within and across work units. Assure the very best customer services possible. Supervises employees spending majority of their time communicating with, motivation, training, and evaluating employees, and planning and directing employees’ work. Secure resources necessary for employees to succeed. Ensure employees meet quality and quantity requirements of the position. Focus employees on the Department’s mission and objectives outlines in the business plan.
Evaluate project/process to determine current performance status. Make/recommend improvements to optimize delivery or improve results. Notify stakeholders of any changes to the project/process. Ensure project/process is consistent, predictable and repeatable.
Perform Independent Assurance evaluations in the field as described in Department procedures and/or the Federal Aid Policy Guide. Perform these evaluations in an objective and professional manner. Document and report findings.
Inspect materials in the filed for compliance with Florida Department of Transportation (dot) SPECIFICATIONS. Inspect facility and operation for compliance with their Quality Control (QC) plan and specification requirements. Document and report findings. Support consultant contracts in accordance with applicable rules, laws and procedures. Review the consultant work effort. Review and comment on invoices.
Perform analysis of in-place conditions in the field. Perform warranty inspection and analysis as required. Determine the cause(s) of the in-place conditions. Propose solutions if necessary or requested by the customer. Perform analysis required to determine the best application of materials to a given need. Specify performance requirements and/or material properties as required. Specify testing and inspection requirements necessary to verify performance or material properties.
Inspect laboratories for compliance in the field with Department contract and procedural documents. Review records, procedures, equipment and personnel as necessary to assess compliance with contract and procedural requirements. Provide feedback and technical assistance to laboratory personnel as appropriate. Document and report findings. Perform follow-up inspections as necessary.
Analyze materials data for contract and procedural compliance. Take timely action to report any errors in the data.
Provide materials related technical support to customers as requested. Provide support in time to meet the customers’ needs. Provide guidance and training to customers. Performs specialized operations and installations.
Review Quality Control plans, Construction plans, specifications, procedures and any other documents necessary to execute the Department’s mission. Provide clear comments as requested in time to be useful to the customer.
The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- the concepts, terminology, principles and analytical techniques of geotechnical field exploration.

Other Job-Related Requirements:
Due to the nature of this position, incumbent must respond to emergencies. Must possess or obtain and maintain American Concrete Institute (ACI) Aggregate Testing Technician Level I. Must pass or have passed Construction Math and Contract Plans Reading Self Study examinations. While on duty-status, the position’s incumbent must be readily available to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), consistent with the type of commercial driver license (CDL) the incumbent is required to possess, or on a routine basis performs other CMV safety-sensitive functions. A valid class “B” driver’s license is required.
This position requires a valid Class B driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:
- three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation;
- any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years;
- a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and
- a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years.
Your driving record will be reviewed and the status of your driver license confirmed.
