An exciting opportunity is available for a strong leader with a diversified Florida Park Service background to fill the position of Park Manager II at Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park. Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park is home to a variety of plant and animal species that can be found nowhere else in the continental United States. The CSO (Friends of Fakahatchee) plays a major role in furthering opportunities for park visitors by educating the public about the fragility of the Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park's biodiversity. The staffing consists of 5 FTE’s including 1 Biological Scientist II, 2 Rangers, 2 Park Service Specialists, and OPS staff.

Fakahatchee Strand Preserve is the largest state park in Florida and is home to a variety of plant and animal species that can be found nowhere else in the continental U.S. The emphasis at Fakahatchee is on the preservation of its natural character. In keeping with this goal, facilities and activities are limited but offer the visitor a wilderness to enjoy and explore. The park is composed of four main use areas: The Big Cypress Bend Boardwalk, East River, Jones Grade Lakes and Janes Memorial Scenic Drive. The park is located west of Copeland on State Road 29.

Base salary $4,023.07 month/$48,276.04 annual
Your Specific Responsibilities:
Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.
VISITOR SERVICES -Explains facilities and services provided for public use, enjoyment and education; meets visitors, answers questions, provides information and directions. Attempts to resolve visitor complaints while maintaining good public relations. Coordinates interpretive programs, activities, and schedules. Supervises the staff in providing visitor services.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT – Participates in and supervises the resource management program. Implements ecological burning plan for fire type plant communities; recognizes communities, utilizes control burning techniques and maintains fire lanes. Implements vegetation and wildlife management plans; recognizes communities and maintains optimum species control via natural and chemical means. Implements site restoration projects such as reforestation and erosion control. Implements water resources management plans.
MAINTENANCE - Identifies maintenance needs through daily inspections. Maintains maintenance schedules and supervises the staff to assure maintenance on a daily, weekly and yearly basis is regularly performed. Supervises and assists with the maintenance of grounds, facilities and equipment. Constructs, maintains, and repairs small buildings, fences, trails, service roads, fire lanes, boardwalks, campsites, picnic sites, boat ramps, docks and all other necessary facilities. Maintains cleanliness of grounds and facilities.
ADMINISTRATION – Participates in employee training, supervision and discipline. Supervises the staff in fiscal, purchasing, and property procedures and policies. Participates in the administration of the collective bargaining agreement and maintains good employee relations. Coordinates work schedules and assignments. Checks reports, fee collection, and miscellaneous records prepared by the staff.
PROTECTION - Ensures park rules are enforced pertaining to all facilities and resources, and use thereof, for the enjoyment of the visitor. Prepares and implements the Park Protection Plan in accordance with Operations Policy Manual.
OTHER – Performs other related duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
KNOWLEDGE OF:

This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP-422 (Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility).
