JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position serves as the Health and Physical Education Specialist in the Office of Healthy Schools.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
(Note: The omission of specific job duties does not preclude management from assigning specific duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position.)
The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) has an open position that is responsible for executing the following functions:
- The employee is required to utilize knowledge of Florida statutes, State Board of Education rules and agency policies associated with areas of responsibility, including health education, resiliency education, substance use and abuse prevention education, child trafficking prevention, physical education, driver education, the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) and required instruction.
- The employee is required to provide appropriate leadership regarding state academic standards, instructional support and assigned projects, including the coordination of grants related to health education, resiliency education, substance use and abuse prevention education, child trafficking prevention, physical education, driver education and the JROTC.
- The employee is responsible for providing leadership in the development, revision and implementation of the state academic standards for K-12 health and physical education. The employees is also responsible for providing leadership in the development, revision and implementation of and corresponding course descriptions for JROTC, health, physical and driver education.
- The employee is required to plan, develop, organize and facilitate professional learning opportunities for educators and district personnel related to the implementation of the Florida state academic standards and current initiatives.
- The employee is required to assist in the implementation of initiatives such as the Course Code Directory, instructional materials adoptions, educator certification examinations and State Board of Education rule development related to health education, resiliency education, substance use and abuse prevention education, child trafficking prevention, physical education, driver education and the JROTC.
- The employee is required to participate in the dissemination of information related to areas of responsibility to internal and external stakeholders. This includes completing legislative requests, developing memorandums and other communication that supports students, educators, school districts and parents.
- The employee is required to participate in the activities of professional organizations as appropriate to provide statewide leadership for JROTC, health, physical and driver education and ensure implementation of statewide initiatives.
- The employee is required to assist with the development and implementation of integrated projects within the office, bureau, division and agency.

- A bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field from an accredited college or University may substitute for the required experience in K-12 Health and Physical Education.

- Annual Leave - All full-time Career Service employees filling established positions earn annual leave in varying increments dependent upon years of creditable service. Employees with up to 5 years of creditable service earn 8.667 hours per month, with 5 to 10 years earn 10.833 hours per month and those with over 10 years of service earn 13 hours per month. Employees in Senior Management Service and Selected Exempt Service positions are credited with 176 hours of annual leave upon appointment. In subsequent years, the annual allotment is credited on the anniversary date of the initial appointment.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
It is the policy of the Florida Department of Education that applicants for employment/volunteer undergo Level 2 background screening in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment or being permitted to serve as a volunteer.
