ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position has regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of s. 112.313, Florida Statutes, and Section 60L-36.003, Florida Administrative Code.
Occasional travel, including overnight and sometimes up to two weeks at a time on an emergency program, required.
NOTES:
The incumbent for this position is expected to work Monday through Thursday, from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.
JOB DUTIES:
GENERAL STATEMENT: This is a professional position responsible for achieving Caribbean Fruit Fly Protocol program goals through quality control, trapping, host survey and removal, packing house and harvest inspections, and bait spray monitoring.
Identifies and reports Caribbean fruit fly and other major economic pests. Identifies host material and other noxious and intrusive plants. Uses approved methods and techniques to establish and maintain fruit fly trap lines in accordance with program rules and regulations. Uses approved methods and techniques for harvest and packing house inspections and bait spray monitoring. Surveys citrus groves and buffer areas for host plants of the Caribbean fruit fly. Oversees removal of host plants, interprets aerial maps, and prepares required documentation.
Compiles and submits to supervisor reports of assigned area activities. Keeps informed of current files regarding citrus crops and potentially devastating plant pests for assigned area. Maintains compliance with certification procedures for the Caribbean Fruit Fly Protocol program and suggests revisions where appropriate. Maintains and keeps supervisor up-to-date on status of field equipment, vehicles, and supplies. Performs and reports on quality control assessment of program field activities. Assists on other division projects, as required.
Responds to inquiries and educates growers and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with the program requirements and procedures. Gives presentations to industry on program activities. Report pests of regulatory or economic significance to the office supervisor.
Performs related work as directed by management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of rules and regulations of the Caribbean Fruit Fly Protocol program.
- Knowledge of fruit fly trapping procedures.
- Ability to use a computer and MS Office Suite.
- Ability to prioritize work, solve problems, and make decisions.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to walk on uneven ground and in inclement weather.
- Ability to work outdoors in hot, cold, and humid environments.
- Ability to identify Caribbean fruit fly host plants.
- Ability to interpret aerial maps, plat maps, and legal descriptions.
- Ability to lift and transport up to 40 pounds.
