Senior Licensed Practical Nurse - Open Competetive
This is a float position, and the successful incumbent will work with clients in busy DOH clinics, while working within the scope of Florida State and Federal Guidelines and DOH- Pinellas policies and procedures. Applicants must be willing to travel to five different clinic locations in Pinellas County.
Your Specific Responsibilities:
- Adult and children’s immunizations
- Obtain patient medical history and vital signs
- Case Management
- Administer medication ordered by the provider
- Educates and provide information regarding family planning, STD screening and treatment services
- Respond with other clinical staff to emergency situations that occur in clinic
- Work with clinic manager to assure efficient clinic flow
- Utilize an EMR to document client visits
- Perform EKG’s, Spirometry, and other medical office tests
- Performs other duties as required
- Keeps supervisor informed
- Attends staff meetings as required
- Attends training for personal and professional growth
- Meets annual training requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of nursing and public health principles, practices & techniques.
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, utilizing approved DOH abbreviations when documenting in the electronic medical record
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Ability to operate a personal computer and accompanying software programs
- Ability to safely administer medications and immunizations within scope of nursing licensure
- Ability to work with persons of a different race, language, culture, or socioeconomic status
- Ability to make sound nursing judgments independently
- Ability to adapt to necessary changes in duties, duty station, or work hours for the benefit of the agency
- Ability to deal effectively with customers of various types of backgrounds and cultures.
- Ability to learn and maintain proficiency of computer skills & new programs required by Medical and Clinical Services divisions
- Skills in one-on-one interviewing; ability to maintain accurate and appropriate medical documentation in EMR system
Qualifications:
Minimum -
- Current Florida Nursing License
- At least 1 year EMR experience
- Valid Florida Driver’s License and daily access to reliable transportation or able to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Willingness to travel and cover at multiple sites as needed, sometimes with little notice
Preferred -
- 1 year experience working in a fast-paced medical office.
- Six months’ experience working in a Primary Care clinic
- Six months’ experience giving adult and children’s immunizations
- At least 1 year experience working as an LPN
