POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is in the Firearms Eligibility Bureau, reporting to the Firearms Purchase Program. This position is responsible for the review and advanced analysis of criminal history records to determine eligibility for the purchase and possession of firearms as authorized by Florida Statute. Incumbent will also be responsible for training internal and external customers, critical review of transactions for discrepancies, and quality control of transaction evaluations. Incumbent will assist with the monitoring of operational activities to ensure compliance with agency policies/procedures, program requirements, state and federal laws, and operational goals.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties include:
- Completing task analyses, work flow documentation, etc., with such goals as to resolve programmatic, administrative, and operational issues;
- Assessing/analyzing and making recommendations to resolve issues and problems within the Section/Bureau/Division;
- Acting as a team lead in the absence of management, allocating resources to maximize productivity and efficiency;
- Evaluating requests by analyzing criminal justice information in Firearm Eligibility System (FES) in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner and process transactions in accordance with state and federal law;
- Accurately submits transactions requiring research through Computerized Criminal History (CCH) workflow;
- Conducting regular audits of completed firearm-related transactions to evaluate member knowledge;
- Acting as a subject matter expert for firearm-related transactions, dealer account management, and criminal justice agency partnerships;
- Serving in a reserve capacity for the customer service line, dealer technical assistance line, and dealer submission line, stepping in as needed to manage call volume and escalated request; and
- Meeting all aspects of the assignment and all deadlines or negotiates prior approval to alter deadlines.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system;
- Knowledge of office and administrative principles and practices;
- Knowledge of the methods of data collection;
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication;
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
- Ability to read and interpret law enforcement data, Florida Statutes, Commission Rules, and Divisional Policy and Procedures;
- Ability to use internal and external resources to perform research;
- Ability to develop and apply instructional curriculum to train others in the use of law enforcement data;
- Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and
- Ability and flexibility to adapt quickly and efficiently to changes in procedures and organizational priorities.

FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants. NOTES:
Preference will be given to current FDLE members who have satisfactorily completed at least six months of the probationary period for their current position.
